London - On-site working required (to be discussed with placement line manager)

Love unscripted TV? Obsessed with how shows get made?

Curious about production, casting, research, cameras, editing or the tech behind television productions?

Want to learn by actually getting stuck in?

If that sounds like you, ITV Academy’s Next Generation Programme could be the perfect place to start your career.

This is your chance to join one of ITV’s unscripted production labels and gain hands-on experience across the world of television production; from casting and production through to editorial, studio, technical operations and post-production.

Over nine months, you’ll become a highly engaged multi-skilled Production Assistant, rotating across different teams, building practical skills, working alongside industry professionals and discovering where your strengths lie in the fast-moving world of TV.

No standing on the sidelines. Real experience from day one.

The Team

At ITV, we create some of the UK’s biggest and most talked-about unscripted programmes. Behind every production is a team of creative, technical and production experts working together to find brilliant stories, develop great ideas and bring them to screen.

As part of the ITV Academy’s Next Generation Programme, you’ll join a collaborative environment designed specifically for emerging talent. Alongside your placements, you’ll have support from a dedicated ITV Academy Lead and Buddy throughout the programme.

We're looking for people who are curious, proactive and enthusiastic about TV production and are excited about new technologies and the future of television.

The Role

This rotational traineeship is designed to give you broad exposure to the full production process across unscripted television.

You could be:

  • supporting teams in the production office, on location or in studio environments
  • helping to research stories, contributors and locations for programmes
  • assisting with casting, fact-checking and editorial research
  • contributing to development projects, creative brainstorms and programme ideas
  • supporting shoots, production logistics, schedules and production paperwork
  • learning about compliance, safeguarding and the responsibilities involved in making great television
  • gaining experience of rights, clearances, risk assessments and production processes
  • learning how content moves through post-production, media management and editing workflows
  • developing technical skills through practical experience and shadowing crew
  • exploring how emerging technologies and AI tools are being used in modern production environments

Areas for Consideration:

  • Some travel may be required when in studio or on location.
  • Flexible approach to work and working hours when in studio or on location.

The role is full-time and primarily based on-site in London due to the hands-on nature of production.

Skills you’ll need (minimum criteria)

  • A basic understanding of how television or screen production works from development through to delivery
  • An interest in unscripted television, storytelling and how programmes are developed (particularly formats) and produced
  • Experience working collaboratively with others in a job, education, volunteering or personal project environment
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to explain ideas in a straightforward way
  • A willingness to learn across different departments and try new things
  • An interest in technology, digital tools or emerging media trends, including a basic awareness of AI demonstrated through relevant personal projects, courses or a relevant degree.
  • A demonstrable ability to quickly pivot between different tasks and roles, along with a self-starting attitude to seek out new knowledge and improve processes, without being prompted.

Other things we’re looking for (key criteria)

These criteria will be assessed throughout the selection process.

  • A calm and proactive approach in busy or fast-moving environments
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills
  • Curiosity about the future of TV and emerging production technologies
  • Attention to detail and the ability to stay organised
  • Enthusiasm for learning across multiple areas of production
  • Reliability, professionalism and a positive attitude
  • An appreciation for different perspectives and inclusive storytelling that connect with audiences
  • Comfortable adapting quickly when priorities change
  • An interest in using AI tools, with some experience exploring or experimenting with generative AI (such as text-to-video, AI-assisted editing, or AI-powered graphics), and a curiosity about how these tools could be used creatively in media production.
  • A strong, proactive interest in emerging technologies beyond AI (like Virtual Production or new technical infrastructure) and a desire to stay on top of broader industry trends.
